The days are getting shorter, the sun is disappearing earlier, and your motivation is getting slack as the holidays approach.
It's that time of year again when you are bombarded with holiday treats. Do something different this year - don't gain that 5 to 10 lbs you regret at the beginning of the year. Here are a few tips for keeping you motivated this holiday season:
1. Keep yourself full throughout the day by drinking plenty of water; also keeps you from overeating
2. Find a co-worker or friend to hold you accountable. Go for a walk after lunch, or plan to meet your friend at the gym for your favorite cardio-packed class.
3. Put away the snacks and desserts after meals, or don't even keep them in your house. You are less likely to over indulge if the goodies are out of sight.
4. Eat smaller, balanced meals and snacks at regular intervals throughout the day in order to balance your blood sugar and energy level while preventing excessive hunger. This is particularly important when you have a holiday event scheduled in the evening.
5. Set routine appointments with a certified personal trainer for extra accountability through the holidays. A trainer will keep you motivated, even on the days you don't have the will-power.

We have a great solution for you. Come inside to our “Cool” club where you will stay motivated and enjoy your workouts through the summer. I hate to say it, but before you know it, summer will be over. We all make plans for our summer vacations, but often we don’t plan our summer exercise schedule. Don’t look back at the end of summer and question why you haven’t been to the gym. Look back on Summer 2011 knowing that you have been consistent with your exercise. Have fun this summer, but don’t forget about the gym!

I would have never considered myself to be a runner. I have always enjoyed weight training and the occasional jog but thought long distance running was out of the question for me. Back in 2007 I had a thought that wouldn't leave me alone. It was to run my first marathon. Since then I have completed 4 marathons. The point of this is not to tell you that i am a runner but to encourage you to try something that you may consider impossible. That something could be trying a new Group Fitness class or running in a race. Whatever you decide, never hesitate to let the Sportsclub Personal Trainers know if we can help or give guidance. Look for the red "Ask A Trainer" t-shirts on the fitness floor and feel free to ask your questions. jtrocki@sportsclubsc.com
