Beat the Holiday Buldge
Sep 06, 2011

The days are getting shorter, the sun is disappearing earlier, and your motivation is getting slack as the holidays approach.

It's that time of year again when you are bombarded with holiday treats. Do something different this year - don't gain that 5 to 10 lbs you regret at the beginning of the year. Here are a few tips for keeping you motivated this holiday season:

1. Keep yourself full throughout the day by drinking plenty of water; also keeps you from overeating

2. Find a co-worker or friend to hold you accountable. Go for a walk after lunch, or plan to meet your friend at the gym for your favorite cardio-packed class.

3. Put away the snacks and desserts after meals, or don't even keep them in your house. You are less likely to over indulge if the goodies are out of sight.

4. Eat smaller, balanced meals and snacks at regular intervals throughout the day in order to balance your blood sugar and energy level while preventing excessive hunger. This is particularly important when you have a holiday event scheduled in the evening.

5. Set routine appointments with a certified personal trainer for extra accountability through the holidays. A trainer will keep you motivated, even on the days you don't have the will-power.
