At Sportsclub, the most important part of our day is seeing our members. Sportsclub members come in all shapes and sizes, from a range of ages and backgrounds. They are every day people, just like you, trying to find time in their busy life to be healthy and active.

Most people join a health club because they want to be healthy, but our hope is that each Sportsclub member finds a unique fitness experience that keeps them coming day after day, year after year. Whatever your goal, there is a place for you at Sportsclub.

We invite you to read about some of the experiences of our members, with hopes that you will find something that resonates with you and your path to health and well being.

If you are not already a member of Sportsclub, then we hope reading the stories of people just like you will inspire you to make the choice to live a healthy lifestyle and that you will choose to become a member of the Sportsclub family, where it feels so good to belong!

If you are a member, and would like for us to share your story, please e-mail us at sswartz@sportsclubsc.com.

Dear Sportsclub,
It was September 2006 – that was the month I joined Sportsclub. I’m so glad that I did because I am reaching new heights and living the life I’m supposed to. Since I’ve joined, I have made unbelievable progress. I lost 22 lbs, built muscles up and learned how to use others. With the help of some incredible trainers, I have learned how to eat right, exercise in the right ways and through being at the gym, I have built my confidence enormously.

I had been walking on crutches for 10 years and in a wheelchair for 10 years before that but soon after I joined the club I went up to walking with only one crutch (and wearing high heeled shoes). After about 6 months of continuously coming three days a week, I am now walking with a single straight cane and I am now working towards no walking aids at all (even my doctors and therapists are amazed). I know that by coming to the gym and eating right I will reach that goal.

The workout machines at Sportsclub have helped me so much but the trainers and the members are what keep me wanting to come back. Having everyone cheer me on when they see me working really hard gives me that extra little boost that I need.

Thank you Sportsclub staff and members.

Dear Sportsclub,
When I first moved to Greenville five years ago, I was extremely unmotivated. I guess being 35 pounds heavier had a lot to do with it. I joined the ‘other gym’ because it was cheaper. I found myself going there when it was convenient to them since they had limited hours. I would work out for 15 or 20 minutes, get bored and go home. I did this two or three times a week with little or no results. Then someone told me about Sportsclub. I decided ‘why not’ since I had nothing to lose but 35 pounds. When I walked into Sportsclub I was amazed at all they had to offer me. I stepped on the elliptical machine with my headphones on and didn’t even realize 45 minutes went by! I was sold. That was years ago. Now I am 185 pounds, feel great and have untold amounts of energy. I sincerely believe the great machines, great staff and the flexible hours have helped keep me motivated. (the televisions help too!)

Thanks Sportsclub.

To the staff at Sportsclub,
I am writing this letter in appreciation of the staff at Sportsclub Greenville. It began for me on January 9, 2006. I was on my way home from a rheumatologist and was in a very depressed mood. My doctor had just told me she was taking me off all medications, because she had to see which one was affecting my liver. We were on our way home, looking for a place to have dinner. My wife knew that I was in pain and depressed. That is when God intervened, and I looked at my wife and said, there is Sportsclub, I wonder what type of place it is. She immediately turned in and told me to go in and look. I knew that she was trying to cheer me up, because she did not get out of the car. I proceeded to enter the club, greeted very pleasantly, and was asked if I wanted to meet with a member of member services. I went out excited and told my wife to park the car and come in. It turned out to be the old Greenville Racquet Club that I had been asking about since we moved here and I was told they had just turned it into a fitness club. I met with Lauren Kent, who impressed me to the point of joining the club immediately. It shocked my wife, because I am not a spur of the moment person.

The next greatest move we made was to get personal trainers. Lauren set me up with Merry Johnson because of my medical condition and my wife with Maribeth Kraft. They were both Godsends to us and they became much more than just trainers. They became our consciences and friends. They care enough to help save and possibly prolong our lives. All the trainers are great and they work well as a team. Spencer and Kim stay on me to not over do it and Robin, Ben and Cindy are constantly encouraging me to keep it up. I have now lost 3 to 4 pant sizes and over 40 pounds. My wife lost close to 30 pounds and 2 to 3 dress sizes. The atmosphere is the club’s greatest attribute in that it makes you want to come and work out.

I would be amiss to leave out the rest of the staff. The club will always be a building, but the people make the building value priceless.

Sincerely,
Billy and Jimelvia Martin
